How to Make a Productive Study Space

In recent years, we’ve seen the term “aesthetic” pop up over and over again on social media. In it’s current usage, the word refers to the distinct look or style of a person, company, or place. Aesthetics have also entered the academic sphere, with things like studygram, studyblr, studytube popping up on various social media platforms. These are accounts that are centered around making productivity, academics, and study visually appealing. The logic behind it is, if your space is functional as well as beautiful, there will be more motivation to study.   I think this is an interesting phenomena, and I think it is a true one. In today’s post, I will be taking you through some of the things I do to maximize my work space, as well as make it efficient. First, let’s start off with some of the basic things that I always have on my desk Book stand Planner/Notebook Globe (this will make sense later, I promise)   As history majors, we do a LOT of reading and writing. It’s so difficult to fumble

My Favorite Online Content Creators

In the digital age, it's become increasingly easy to tailor the kind of media we consume according to our interests. Love dogs? Here's an Instagram account that posts cute dog photos. Do you want to redesign your kitchen? This DIY Youtuber will show up on your recommended page. Are you a history major? There's something for that too.

Over the past year or so, as I've become more and more active on social media, I've curated my feed to include a good number of history and study-related creators. These people not only post amazing content, but they also inspire me to do well in my studies! Today, I'll be sharing some of these creators and accounts with you. Let me know what you think of them, and any other creators I should follow!

Accounts on Youtube (in no particular order)

Townsends - A channel featuring 18th century American lifestyle through historical reenactment and interpretation

English Heritage - A channel that gives tours and showcases life in various time periods and historical locations in England

Smarthistory - This channel is part of Khan Academy, and makes amazing informational videos about famous artworks. Great for learning how to analyze pieces for art history class

Religion For Breakfast - This channel dissects various religions and religious concepts around the world in a way that is accessible and understandable to everyone. The host, Dr. Andrew M. Henry, gives so much historical context in his videos, which really enrich the concepts he talks about.

Tasting History with Max Miller - Max Miller does an incredible job of replicating recipes from history--and from his own home too. His recipes generally feature ingredients and methods that can easily be recreated in a home kitchen.

Accounts on Instagram (in no particular order)

Studyholmes - This study account isn't run by a history student, but rather a medical student in the UK. Even though this is waayyy out of my area of study, I still love seeing her beautiful handwritten notes (complete with anatomical art!) and desk setup.

Intellectys - This study account is run by a history and modern languages student in the UK. Her content is a lovely warm color, and seeing her learn Catalan gives me motivation for learning Latin!

Thecurlyhairacademic - One of the things I love about this account is its focus on women's history. It's also a relatively new account, so it really does have those amazing vibes of a small community.

Scholasticvibes: This is also a new account recently started by a creator I already followed in the vintage community. Run by a teacher-in-training, @scholasticvibes features a fresh, crisp white color palette (and one that inspires me to take better notes!)

People Who Do Both! (again, in no particular order)

The Redhead Academic - Kaelyn is a student and entrepreneur currently getting her Ph.D. in history and African American studies at Yale university. Her content is honest and straightforward. She also gives amazing advice for students wanting to get into graduate and doctoral programs.

Bernadette Banner - I am a huge fan of historical fashion and dress, which is exactly what is featured on Bernadette Banner's channel. She is an historical seamstress who creates historically accurate garments using historical methods --while the rest of us can sit back comfortably and watch.

Not Your Momma's History - This account...so many things to say about this account. Cheyney is a black historical reenactor. In her videos and posts, she constantly challenges the audience to rethink the way they think about historical narratives surrounding BIPOC, and how we think about them in historical spaces.
